Lizzie's story
Lizzie is profoundly deaf. Lizzie is involved in The Children's Society consultation work about involving disabled young people in decision-making. Lizzie told us about her meeting with professionals.
"Every month I have a meeting with the social worker. It's not the same person every time... sometimes they swap and I think who are you, I've never seen you before... they should tell me before the meeting if there's going to be a different social worker. Recently I met another new social worker. When we met she couldn't sign and there was no one to interpret for us. We didn't communicate, there was nothing we could do... its best if they read and understand [the case notes before a meeting]. They need to know the information, they need to read and understand."
We are working with Lizzie to feed this information back to professionals that work with her so they can better include her in her own meetings.
