Suraya's story
Suraya has severe autism. The Children's Society works with Suraya and provides advocacy services following a difficult transition to her new residential placement. The new placement is far away from Suraya's family and she was not involved in the decision to change placements.
Our advocate visits Suraya once a month and supports her to express her views. Suraya was unaware she could attend her review meetings. After talking with her advocate she has told us she would like to attend her next review meetings. Suraya is planning to use symbol cards to show her likes and dislikes about her placement, food and activities at the meeting. We will continue to work with her to ensure she's involved in future decisions about her placement.
